If temperature descends too much and especially if it is very windy, try to stay in a sheltered area. If you have to go out, do so briefly and remember that you must protect yourself with a hat, scarf to cover your face and mouth, gloves, a good coat and if possible, several layers of loose clothes.
Try to keep dry since humidity cools the body quickly. When the body starts shivering, it is a good indication to return to a place with heating.
The heart Works more when it has to protect the body from the cold, this way if you must perform an exhausting job, do it calmly and protect yourself with the appropriate clothes.
Also avoid walking on ice. An elevated percentage of injuries related to cold are produced by falling on sidewalks, stairs and frozen paths.
If your car is stuck, place a bright colored blanket in the radio antenna to attract attention from a rescue squad, cover your entire body (including the head) with a blanket, towel or even newspapers if fabric is not available. Stay awake. Turn on the ignition and heating for 10 minutes every hour and crack the window open a few millimeters to allow fresh air while the car is running. Check that snow is not covering the exhaust to reduce the risk of poisoning by carbon monoxide.
It is usually best to stay inside the vehicle if there is little visibility or if the roads are covered in snow.
