• Establish a personal help network: Designate someone to care for you during an emergency and help you with evacuation.
• Prepare and carry an emergency medical information card: By carrying medical information with you, you will kelp rescuers in case they find you unconscious or incoherent, or if they need to help you evacuate quickly. Include information about your medication, gear, blood type, allergies and sensitivities, insurance numbers, vaccine dates, communication difficulties and preferred treatment, as well as contact information for your suppliers, help network and emergency contacts.
• Personal care assistance: If you receive assistance from a domestic medical attention organism or domestic support suppliers, find out how the provider will respond in case of an emergency. Designate backup or alternative suppliers you may contact in case of an emergency.
• For people in a wheelchair: Plan how you will evacuate in an emergency and analyze it with the help of your personal aid network. If you are in a motorized wheelchair, have a manual wheel chair as a backup.
• For visually impaired people: Keep an additional cane next to the bed. Fasten a whistle to the cane; use it if you need to attract attention. Be careful when moving after an earthquake; objects may fall and block roads that are usually clear.
• For hearing impaired people: Keep extra batteries for your hearing devices with the emergency supplies. Consider storing your hearing device in a container that is fixed to your nightstand or bedpost so you can locate them quickly after a disaster.
• For language impaired people: Determine how you will communicate with the emergency staff if you are without your communication devices. Keep paper, writing materials, copies of words or paper and specific pre-printed phrases.
• In your wallet, bag, emergency equipment, etc.

Disaster Registry Program (DRP) for elderly and handicapped people: The DRP keeps lists of all elderly and handicapped people who should be monitored after a disaster. The Health Department keeps this database safe.
