A good emergency radio will be able to pickup : AM (530-1710 kHz), FM 88-108 MHz, TV VHF channels and "Weather Alert". SHORTWAVE (SW) (3-12 MHz) could be useful but it is not available on most emergency radios as it usually requires an additional antenna to pick it up.
